Carmarthenshire County Council is proud to highlight the ongoing success of Hwb Bach y Wlad, a vital initiative addressing rural poverty and supporting communities across the county. Since its launch on 18 September 2023, the service has reached 11,646 individuals, offering direct, face-to-face advice and assistance to those living in some of the most isolated areas of Carmarthenshire.
With 484 visits completed to date, the initiative is providing essential cost of living advice, guidance, and direct referrals to key partner organisations including Citizens Advice, local foodbanks, Age Cymru, Connecting Carmarthenshire, Angor, Adfer Energy and many more. Tailored community drop-in events have been held to provide focused support on employability, energy efficiency, and services for those affected by cancer and life-limiting illnesses.
Working with the Bws Bach y Wlad transport service, Hwb Bach y Wlad ensures no resident is left behind by helping people access the services and support they are entitled to, no matter where they live. This mobile approach is removing barriers and making a real difference in rural communities.
Councillor Carys Jones, Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs, Community Cohesion and Planning Policy, said:
“Hwb Bach y Wlad is all about bringing help to people where they are. Too often, those in rural areas feel left out or unable to access the services they need, and this initiative is changing that. I’m proud of the work our teams are doing across Carmarthenshire, ensuring that people receive the support and advice they deserve.”
The team will be present at a range of upcoming agricultural shows and community events over the coming months to engage further with residents. Events include:
