As a Partner of the Carmarthenshire Public Services Board, Carmarthenshire County Council wants residents, community organisations, local businesses and other stakeholders to have their say on the future of food in Carmarthenshire by taking part in the Food Strategy Consultation.

The survey, which closes on 10 September 2025, asks for views on the county’s Local Food Strategy which aims to create a food system that produces, promotes and provides access to healthy and sustainable food for future generations by focussing on three key objectives:

  • Improving the food environment within homes, in public and in community settings
  • Enhancing public sector food through sustainable procurement and education
  • Supporting local food economy with sustainable farming, careers and livelihoods

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs, Community Cohesion and Planning Policy, Cllr Carys Jones, said:

Have your say on the Local Food Strategy and help to shape a Local Food Strategy that reflects local needs and priorities as well as delivering meaningful change across key areas including food access, nutrition, local supply chains, food waste and climate impact.”
Our mission is to ensure that everyone in Carmarthenshire has access to local, healthy and sustainable food, with schools, catering teams and provision services working together to promote and deliver this”.

Cllr Darren Price, Chair of the Carmarthenshire Public Services Board said:

The Public Services Board has spent over two years developing this Local Food Strategy, shaped by input from local, regional, and national stakeholders.
At a time of growing economic, environmental, and health challenges in Carmarthenshire, this strategy offers a shared vision to bring people, businesses, and organisations together.
With ambition and focus, we aim to deliver targeted action that will benefit communities across the county.”
