As schools break up for the Whitsun half-term holiday, Carmarthenshire is the place to be for an unforgettable family day out.  From outdoor adventures to exciting cultural experiences, the county offers an array of free and low-cost activities that will make this Whitsun one to remember. Whether you're looking for high-energy adventures, relaxed days out, or indoor escapes for rainy days, Carmarthenshire is the perfect destination for a memorable break.

Carmarthenshire’s Actif Leisure Centres will be brimming with fun this Whitsun, from intensive swim lessons for children and pool inflatables to Nerf gun battles, Lego building, and Aqua Boards for a truly active experience. Llanelli Leisure Centre is also running free swimming sessions for children up to the age of 16 on Saturdays, 24 & 31 May. For more details on these exciting opportunities, visit the Actif website.

History and innovation come alive at Pendine's Museum of Land Speed. Throughout the week, children can create their own electric cars or join the Crafty Car Club for a creative experience. Don't miss the chance to see the iconic restored racing car, Babs, and explore other fascinating exhibits.

On May 31, join a special event inspired by The Herds, a global climate action project, featuring puppet-making workshops, art activities, and an educational focus on endangered species and sustainability.

Why not try out Caban, Pendine’s Crazy Golf experience this half term.  Whether you're a seasoned pro or a first-time putter, the 12-hole exciting and family-friendly course is packed with twists, turns, and challenges that guarantee endless fun for all ages.

Carmarthenshire’s Libraries will be hosting a diverse range of fun activities for children, including:

  • Story Time & Colouring for under-5s
  • Craft Sessions for ages 5+
  • LEGO & Duplo Play for all ages
  • Scratch Coding Club for ages 7+
  • Saturday Scalextric Sessions, where kids can race on a custom-built track for some high-speed fun.

Open Wednesday through Sunday, the Canolfan Eto Re-use Centre offers an opportunity to shop for repaired and repurposed items, perfect for those seeking eco-friendly treasures.

If you're a nature lover, the WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre offers a Wetland Bug Hunt with Lloyd of the Flies on May 24, where you can explore minibeasts and engage with nature through augmented reality.

For those seeking adventure on two wheels, Carmarthenshire’s scenic cycling routes offer the perfect way to explore the county. Pedal along traffic-free paths like Sustrans Routes 4, 437, and 47, or take in the stunning landscapes of the newly opened western section of the Tywi Valley Path. If you’re looking for a more guided experience, head to Pembrey Country Park on May 30 for a guided ride with the rangers, exploring the park and the surrounding Pembrey Forest. Alternatively, join Foothold Cymru’s Family Friendly Bike Ride on May 27 for a relaxed, guided tour of Llanelli, led by British Cycling leaders. Or simply explore Carmarthenshire's beautiful beaches, including Cefn Sidan, Pendine, and Llansteffan, or step back in time at one of the county’s many historic castles, including the dramatic hilltop fortress of Carreg Cennen or the beautifully preserved Kidwelly Castle.
